Asus has a feature on their motherboards – well, newer ones at least – in the BIOS, labeled something like “memory remap. Both boards had the original BIOS version, It’s also possible they just didn’t put it there, though it seems odd to leave it out A8n-vn video should a8n-vvm be allocating.

It doesn’t appear to be in the BIOS shown in the manual, maybe it’s been added in a revision since then. Are you using the onboard video? If the chipset can only address 4 GB of RAM not unusual for desktop boards up until very recentlythen it’s not going to be able to remap any memory above 4 GB.
